This session will focus on discussing ideas and anecdotes as a part of an ongoing process to motivate ourselves, our professional, and social groups to want to lift everyone up with a welcoming approach to life.

 

We welcome your input on topics you would like to have discussed during the session. Please send in any topics or questions you have for Imran by October 5th. We will also be taking questions during the session. 

 

Imran obtained his graduate degree from Portland State University in 2008. He taught Persuasion and Leadership at the University of Portland and later Interpersonal Communication courses at Oregon State University for eight years. Imran has worked as a college educator for more than 14 years and also worked on a small business venture for five years as the director of operations. From that experience, he is able to bring real life anecdotes into class discussion and material for workplace related discourse.  

 

He has presented research on the misperception of terrorism in mainstream news and after traveling to Karachi in 2016, how the culture of (individualism and uncertainty avoidance) in Karachi, Pakistan is misconceived. Imran has also built the course DEI in Communication Organizations, the first class of its kind for the Murrow College. He facilitates professional development for different types of company training, including DEI.

The Circles is an honor society for those who have devoted at least 25 years making significant contributions to our chapter’s television and digital media industry. The Gold Circle is for those with 50+ years working in pursuit of our profession’s highest and most noble goals, primarily within our chapter.

In addition to setting a high standard for work within our industry, Circles inductees are also noted for community service, which may also include service to the broadcasting industry, mentoring upcoming journalists, service to NATAS and general contributions to the community at large.

Nominees may include those in academic, administrative, creative, journalistic, performing or technical roles within the television industry. This milestone is reserved for professionals who haven’t just witnessed change in an industry, they’ve led it. Gold and Silver Circle inductees are nominated by their peers through a selection committee established by NATAS NW.

The Gold & Silver Circle Honors will be held Friday, May 31st, at Fremont Studios in Seattle.

Discounts for Judging

If you judged a minimum of two categories in 2023 you will receive $50 discounts on each entry you are listed as an entrant. This discount applies ONLY to individual(s) who judged, not the entire entry. If you are submitting for multiple entrants and they have suggested they judged, but the fee does not reflect, reach out to northwest@emmyonline.tv. We will confirm.

Judging opportunities come soon! If you are basking in the discounts for this year, be sure you participate in 2024 and build your reserves. We will have entries from Boston/New England, Central Great Lakes, National Capital Cheseapeake Bay, Pacific Southwest, Rocky Mountain, AND Southeast. If you have not judged before, just let us know. It’s much simpler than you think!

NATAS also serves our communities by offering scholarships for tomorrow's broadcasting leaders.

The Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is committed to welcoming all people into our organization. In 2020, we created a Diversity Committee to focus on increasing diversity and awareness within our board and during all of our events, including the Northwest Regional Emmy® Awards Gala.
